About This Blog

"But he had to call the dog twice, for the dog had remained quite motionless for a moment, looking up steadily at Father Brown as the wolf looked at St. Francis." G. K. Chesterton, "The Oracle of the Dog"

I began this blog to chronicle my musings as a volunteer dog-walker at the Gulf Coast Humane Society in Corpus Christi, Texas. I recently read James Hynes' delightful novel Kings of Infinite Space in which the protagonist, a failed English professor, explains to his disappointed girlfriend why he had to ponder a moment before saving her life: "Aw, honey, I'm an intellectual. I have to think about everything." If that's the definition of an intellectual, then I suppose I am one. I have to think about everything and, having thought, have to write about most of it.

I also plan to use this blog to post photographs and brief descriptions of the different dogs with whom I consort. I do this partly because they are admirable animals and I can't help talking about them. I also do it in hopes that this will encourage someone to come and adopt them.
